The 28 October BAS deadline covers your July to September quarter, and it comes around faster than most business owners expect. If you’re in Kellyville, Norwest, or anywhere across The Hills District, here’s what you need to have sorted before the deadline hits.
What this BAS deadline covers
This lodgement covers GST, PAYG withholding, and PAYG instalments for the July to September quarter. If you lodge through a registered BAS Agent or Tax Agent, you may be entitled to a later lodgement date — but your records still need to be ready well before then.
What you need to have ready
- All bank transactions reconciled in Xero or MYOB up to 30 September
- Sales invoices and income recorded correctly, with GST coded properly
- Business expenses entered and matched to receipts
- Payroll processed and STP finalised for the quarter, if you have employees
- Any loan or asset purchases correctly recorded
Common last-minute problems
The most common issue we see is unreconciled bank feeds — transactions sitting in Xero or MYOB that haven’t been matched or categorised. This throws off your GST figures and means your BAS Agent or accountant is working with incomplete information. Missing receipts and unrecorded cash expenses are the other big one.
If you’re already behind
If your books aren’t up to date and the deadline is close, don’t panic — but don’t leave it either. Get in touch as soon as possible so we can assess how much catching up is needed and get your records BAS-ready in time, or as close to it as possible.
How GoBookaroo helps
We keep your bank reconciliations, GST coding, and records up to date year-round, so BAS time is simply a matter of running the reports — not a last-minute scramble. If you’d like your books BAS-ready well ahead of the next deadline, get in touch for a free chat.
GoBookaroo provides bookkeeping and BAS preparation support. We are not a registered BAS Agent, Tax Agent or accountant unless stated otherwise, and we’re happy to work alongside your existing accountant or BAS Agent.
This applies just as much to business owners in Castle Hill as it does across the rest of The Hills District — if your books aren’t BAS-ready yet, get in touch before the deadline.
